FAQs

First of all, the cause of the mould must be identified and eliminated. As a first measure, affected rooms should then be well ventilated and dried out in order to prevent further growth of the mould. You should proceed as follows to combat mould infestation:

Step 1: TO REMOVE MOULD
The AVIVA SchimmelEx Chlorfrei anti-mould spray is suitable for removing mould from walls and ceilings. The spray is simply sprayed onto the affected areas and washed off with water after an exposure period of 5 – 10 minutes. In case of severe infestation or highly absorbent substrates we recommend using the product twice. Allow the wall to dry thoroughly after treatment before repainting.

Step 2: TO PERMANENTLY PREVENT MOULD IN YOUR APARTMENT
It may not be possible to eliminate the cause of the mould without further ado (e.g. thermal bridge) or the mould may regularly return to the same spot. In this case, it is best to use our AVIVA FormelSan anti-mould paint to paint your walls. It prevents the formation of renewed mould in endangered and already infested areas.

Step 3: THE NEW COATING FOR RENOVATED ROOMS
If you have found the cause of the mould infestation and eliminated it, you can paint your walls and ceilings with one of the AVIVA wall paints. We recommend the house interior paints AVIVA Tiromin-Weiß or AVIVA Tiromin-Color. These mineral paints offer a natural protection against mould. Did you know that the best way to protect yourself from mould infestation is to ventilate your home properly? Regular and efficient ventilation greatly reduces the moisture required for fungal growth.

There are several designations for thermally insulated facades, e.g. facade with "optimum thermal insulation" or "ETICS" (= external thermal insulation composite system).

The products Aviva Tirosilc-Color orAviva Tirokat-Color are suitable for coating such thermally insulated facades.

Aviva Tirosilc-Color is a universally applicable, modern hybrid facade paint with excellent weather protection and additional protection against algae attack and very good colour stability.

Aviva Tirokat-Color is a high-quality mineral silicate facade paint. Incidentally, heat-insulated facades should not be too dark in colour, as this can lead to increased heating of the facade and thus to an increased risk of cracking.

Your local ADLER-retailer can tell you whether your desired colour shade is suitable for an ETICS facade.

All our Aviva interior wall paints are suitable for interior use. Most of the products have been awarded the Austrian eco-label for wall paints and are generally recognized as safe to use. With such a large selection of products, however, it is not always easy to know which paint is suitable for which application.

A rough distinction can be made between "classic" dispersion paints, mineral paints and latex paints. All these products are available in different quality and price levels. In the following we would like to explain to you the rough differences to the different product types and to name the respective top products.

Dispersion paint – the universal wall paint
A dispersion paint is suitable for practically all rooms and can be used on almost all substrates. It is a "commercial" wall paint consisting of colour pigments and fillers, water and a binding agent. These binding agents are usually referred to as "dispersions". Water-based dispersion paints are very easy to use, breathable, produced without solvents and plasticizers, odourless and not harmful to health.

Product examples: Aviva Ultra-Weiß or Aviva Ultra-Color

Mineral paint – the wall paint that produces a healthy indoor atmosphere
In the case of mineral paints (often also referred to as silicate paints), the "binding agent" in the wall paint consists mainly of "potassium silicate". A coating with mineral paint does not form a layer like other coatings (e.g. with dispersion paint), but bonds inseparably with the substrate. This process is called "silicification". However, this is only possible with mineral substrates such as plaster or concrete. The special feature of mineral paints is their very high diffusivity (water vapour permeability). This prevents, for example, the formation of condensation water and the substrate can "breathe". Mineral paints are therefore particularly suitable for allergy sufferers, as dirt particles and bacteria do not adhere to the walls. Due to the strong alkalinity of mineral paints, the reproduction of fungi and bacteria is impeded. That is why mineral paints are highly recommended from a biological architecture point of view and are ideal for use in living rooms and bedrooms, children's rooms or even damp rooms.

Product examples: Aviva Tiromin-Weiß or Aviva Tiromin-Color

Latex paint – the paint for high demands
The properties of latex paints are above all excellent water resistance and high durability and cleanability. A special latex binding agent in the wall paint is responsible for this. The walls painted with it can be wiped very easily wet and cleaned of dirt. Latex paints are therefore preferably used in the kitchen, in stairwells or in the anteroom (shoe rack). In considerable contrast to dispersion or mineral paints, the surface of latex paints is much glossier. Product examples: Aviva Strong-Weiß or Aviva Strong-Color

In the following table we show you again the rough differences between the different product types:

Practical tip:
Depending on the type of surface you want to coat, different qualities should be used. If, for example, you want to paint a newly plastered wall - which requires two coats of paint anyway - a product with opacity class 2 is sufficient. If you want to freshen up a wall which is already white, you should choose a product with the best opacity class 1 so that you can achieve a beautiful white wall again in just one work process.

Algae growth occurs primarily on surfaces that exhibit a high level of moisture over a long period of time. For example, north-sided façade surfaces on which condensation forms are particularly at risk.

Algae alone are not a problem for the façade and only represent an optical defect. However, they are a reliable sign of damp walls and this damp climate can also attract harmful mould spores. Therefore, such damp spots should be taken seriously and the surfaces treated with an algae remover such as Aviva Fungisan.

With Aviva Fungisan from ADLER you can remove algae from your facades. It is a low-odour algae remover that cleans and disinfects the surface infested with algae or fungi at the same time. First you must mechanically pre-clean the affected surfaces, e.g. with a steam jet or a brush. Then you can simply apply Aviva Fungisan with a brush. In case of strong algae attack you should repeat the procedure.

After a drying time of approx. 24 hours you can rework your facade with the suitable ADLER facade paint – we particularly recommend our product Aviva Tirosilc-Color.

By the way, Aviva Fungisan can be used not only on plastered or thermally insulated façades, but also on wood with algae attack. The application is the same, except that wood surfaces treated with Aviva Fungisan should be coated with a suitable wood coating.
