Coating front doors with Aquafix S

ADLER illustrates step by step how the new Aquafix S texture paste is meant to be used for coating front doors:

A perfect result - a matt and pleasantly textured and robust surface
Step 1 – Grinding or sanding the substrate
Step 2 – Spraying the epoxy primer...
...and intermediate sanding after letting it dry
Step 3 - Spraying Aquawood Protor-Base, white
The film thickness is 175 to 200 μm
After drying, intermediate sanding is done with grain size 280.
Step 4 – Stir Aquafix S
Step 5 – Applying the topcoat
The film thickness of the topcoat is 200 μm

The ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik has expanded the range of its Protor front door coatings with a texture paste: Aquafix S. It is added to the Protor Finish D and the front door manufacturer already conjures up something very special. The surface feels pleasantly warm, somewhat rough and vividly structured. "Of course we fill the structure paste according to the mixing ratio suitable for the 2.2 and 8 kilo containers of Protor-Finish D," says Dr. Peter Hoernes, who heads the development of window and front door paints at ADLER. Application engineer Florian Rendl shows step by step how the structure paste works:

Steps

  1. Step 1 – The substrate, grinding or sanding

All substrates used for front doors are suitable. Florian Rendl uses a moisture-resistant MDF-V100 quality as a blank sample. As a pre-treatment he grinds it with 240 grain.

  2. Step 2 – Epoxy primer

The first layer  is the ADLER 2K Epoxy Primer, which serves as an adhesion promoter and ensures optimum water protection.

  3. Spray this on in a layer thickness of 200 μm .

  4. After the Epoxy-primer has dried overnight, it is sanded with 280 grain.

  5. Step 3 – Intermediate coating

Now apply the Aquawood Protor-Base in the white colour with a cup pistol or Airmix, which ensures a smooth and full surface.
The first coat of Protor-Base must dry for at least five hours, then a second coat can be applied if required. Sand the dried Protor-Base again with 280 grain.

  6. Step 4 – Stir Aquafix S

Now simply stir eight percent Aquafix S into the Protor Finish D, regardless of the shade. In this example, the Protor finish has the colour RAL 3005 wine red.

  7. Step 5 – Applying the topcoat

Now spray Protor-Finish D with the structure paste as usual. Aquafix S has no impact on the spray application.

  8. The layer thickness of the topcoat is 200 μm.

  9. The result

The result is a wonderfully matt, pleasantly textured and robust surface. Simply a very special front door.
