The basics for savvy DIYers: Renovating parquet flooring with Legno Smart Oil from ADLER

One product, one application: ADLER’s new Legno Smart-Öl makes it quick and easy to refresh old wooden floors. This two-component, high-solid oil ensures a particularly durable finish.

18 years, two children, a dog? It’s a simple equation: the odd scratch here and there and the occasional bit of mischief on the parquet floor bear witness to everyday family life. But thanks to a refurbishment using ADLER’s Legno Smart-Öl, the old floor has regained top marks: its beauty, durability and resilience are rated ‘Very satisfactory’!

The product

ADLER’s innovative Legno Smart Öl not only provides natural protection and a beautiful finish for furniture and wooden elements in interior design. The two-component oil is also ideally suited for recoating or renovating parquet floors. It impresses with particularly high chemical and mechanical resistance and very good slip resistance (slip resistance class R11). Legno Smart-Öl is colourless and available in many different shades. The wide range allows you to create individual accents. For the floor in our example, a slightly reddish variant was chosen to emphasise the character and beauty of the pear wood. The single-coat oil is supplied and applied with the Legno Hardener.

Steps

    Step 1: Rough sanding

    First of all, the old coating must be removed: grind the wooden floor thoroughältig using a belt sander or orbital sander. Remove the skirting boards and work on the edges using a hand sanderät. A grit size of between 40 and 60 is ideal.ät.

    Step 2: Filling

    Deeper damaged areas are best repaired with Vivido Floor Fill: this water-based gel can be mixed with sanding dust to create a paste for filling scratches, cracks, and other surface damage.

    Step 3: Final touches

    Next comes the finishing touch using grit size 100 to 120. Once again, the disc sander will serve you well.

    Step 4: Watering

    Optional, but beneficial for achieving greater uniformity and consistency of the surface: Lightly mist the sanded floor with water until slightly damp, then allow it to dry for several hours.

    Step 5: Hardener

    Now it’s time to get serious: Stir the hardener into the Legno Smart-Öl and continue working quickly.

    Step 6: Order

    Apply the Legno Smart-Öl and spread it evenly and efficiently using a floor trowel or squeegee.

    Step 7: Polishing

    For best results, work the oil carefully into the wood using a machine: first, sand it in lightly with a fine-grit pad, then polish the surface with a non-abrasive pad. Finish with a final pass using a cotton cloth to remove any excess material.

    The result:

    Once dry, provided there is good ventilation&and temperatures are around 20 degrees, the parquet should be safe to walk on carefully as early as the next day. The reward for this truly straightforward renovation task, which takes just a few hours, is a gleaming floor that delights with its renewed freshness and is perfectly equipped to withstand the wear and tear of the coming years!
