Authentic, natural, rustic: old-wood look for the living room

Sunburnt old wood has a unique character: wind and weather give the wooden facade of alpine huts, farms and barns their special charm, creating a strong look with extraordinary color effects

Spruce wood is brushed using a machine.
After brushing, the wood surface is carefully smoothed.
The stronger the wood is brushed, the more striking the stain effect.
The stain is applied thickly by spraying ...
... and then distributed with a paint brush or brush.
The stained surface is painted twice with a matt topcoat.
After the first coat of paint, the surface is carefully sanded down once.
Arova Aqua-Alpin Trend creates a distinctive, rustic stain pattern.
You will need these products: the stain ADLER Arova Aqua-Alpin Trend in the colour Sepp and the topcoat ADLER PUR-Naturmatt with ADLER PUR Härter.
The stain is available in eight intermixable colours.

This old-wood look also looks really good indoors, however - in a natural children's room, a rustic lounge or a modern kitchen. And the best thing is: with the new softwood stain

Arova Aqua-Alpin Trend from ADLER, carpenters and joiners can bring the alpine hut style into the living area almost overnight. ADLER expert Stefan Oberladstätter shows you step by step how it's done:

Steps

  1. Step 1: Brushing

The old-wood look comes out best on strongly brushed spruce or on thick spruce veneer. Brush the wood firmly - best by machine - with the steel brush in order to reveal the hard annual rings and thus achieve a striking look.

  2. Step 2: Sanding

Treat the brushed wood by lightly sanding it with grit size 100 to smooth the surface slightly. Then remove the sanding dust thoroughly.

  3. STEP 3: SPRAYING AND SPREADING

During the spray process, apply the stain from two sides wet-on-wet with plenty of excess in the direction of the wood grain - the application quantity is approx. 150 to 200 g / m2. Immediately spread the stain thoroughly by drawing it out transversely and longitudinally to the grain with a soft brush. Alternatively, the stain can also be applied by a coating process. In this case, work the stain into the wood with a soft brush in the grain direction.

  4. STEP 4: PRIMING

For the priming you can use both water and solvent-based paints. After a drying time of six (for water-based paints) to twelve hours (for solvent-based paints) or even better overnight, you can apply the first layer of topcoat. As a topcoat, Stefan Oberladstätter recommends ADLER Pur-Naturmatt or alternatively ADLER PUR-Antiscratch HQ G5. For lighter shades you should choose a lightfast top coat such as ADLER Legnopur or ADLER Aqua-Resist

  5. STEP 5: INTERMEDIATE SANDING AND APPLYING THE TOPCOAT

When the primer has dried, gently sand the surface along the annual rings with an abrasive sponge in grit size 220. Then you can apply the topcoat to the surface.

The distinctive mountain hut look is finished for the interior: Arova Aqua-AlpinTrend provides a rustic, highly positive stain pattern, which is underlined by the natural surface of the brushed spruce.
