Winning awards with ADLER

What do a high-class restaurant in Paris, an apartment in Kitzbühel, the Giggijochbahn cable car station in Sölden, the city library in Innsbruck and a range of intricate design objects from East Tyrol have in common? An award for Tyrol's best carpentry work – and a surface created by ADLER!

ADLER on top

A window, a ceiling, a desk, a cupboard or a standalone piece of furniture – such was the variety seen in the five projects recently awarded the "Award for Design and Carpentry Craftsmanship" by ProHolz Tirol and the State Guild for the Woodworking Trade. And when it came to surface design and finishing, their creators put their faith in the high-quality products of Austria's leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes. In fact, evidence of ADLER's keen eye could be seen in almost all of the 110 submissions...

Creative design

"Yes, of course, when it comes to the larch wooden components, we use a stain and a paint from ADLER," confirms Arnold Lanser from Carpentry Tischlerei Lanser in Villgratental, East Tyrol, who produced the "Aberjung Objects" together with Gestaltungsbüro Aberjung. No great surprise here – after all, Tischlerei Lanser had already been selected as the first ADLER Herzbluat-Tischler back in 2015. With the loving and attentive way they deal with wood as a raw material, and the way they mix tradition and modernity, these East Tyrolian carpenters impressed us even back then, and now these creative craftspeople have once again surpassed themselves in their collaboration with the designers from Aberjung: using archaic motifs, they have created a series of intricate-looking individual items of furniture that seem to be almost sacral. A milking stool is turned into a pyramid standing on its head, a harp becomes a discreet storage unit for clothes, the cross on the summit of a mountain is turned into a lamp. Using ADLER's Arova Rustica stain in "Umbrien" or "Ligurien", the larch that has been used can be given a natural brown or a lily white tinge. The surfaces are then coated with ADLER Ventopur G10. Brass is used throughout to create a strong contrast. So it was that a range of impressive and perfectly crafted objects came into being that totally impressed the jury, who were led by Design Professor Günther Grall from the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

May we present

There was also a great deal of praise and a well-deserved award for the designer restaurant  „Le Collectionneur“ which had been realised by Holzmanufaktur Auer – a project that ADLER are happy to be able to include in their list of references. The sculptural, three-dimensional ceiling and wall cladding were coated with ADLER Legnopur This popular multi-use paint was also the coating of choice of Carpentry Tischlerei Spechtenhauser for the interior decoration of the city library in Innsbruck. This is not the first time that this wonderful project has been highlighted – it was also presented in the ADLER Coatings Report at the beginning of 2020. The jury were particularly taken with the striking design of the huge desk, but there was also a special mention for the clever way that the rooms had been divided up and the planning of the acoustics.

Stylish windows

Incidentally, Spechtenhauser Holz- und Glasbau GmbH actually had two things to celebrate: this model Innsbruck-based company also pocketed an award for the windows in the Giggijochbahn cable car station in Sölden: the narrow wooden windows are flush-mounted into the rounded structure of the building, which was designed by the architect office Architekturbüro Obermoser The oak frames give the impression of being quite delicate, yet they are nevertheless able to withstand the harsh climate of the Alps at a height of almost 2,000 metres above sea level. They were treated with Aquawood Ligno+ Base and Aquawood Lärchenöl both by ADLER.

Need a ceiling? Call Decker!

The final member of the quartet of prize-winners is the carpentry Tischlerei Decker from Itter. Even the low level ceiling in a Kitzbühel apartment wasn't too much of a challenge for this company: using a clever design and an ingenious lighting concept, these expert craftspeople succeeded in creating a completely harmonious atmosphere. The exciting, high-contrast interior design is full of great features, from the crystalline kitchen island and the dining table treated with ADLER PUR-Antiscratch to the interiors of the cupboards that have been painted in a range of different shades of ADLER Pigmopur. Deliberately placed glass surfaces were finished off with Aduro Vetrocolor in black and dark grey. The carpentry workshop is particularly deserving of this success, having been badly affected by a major fire at the end of 2019 – but neither the fire nor the coronavirus were able to stop the Decker family and their highly committed team!

The keen eye of ADLER

Whilst we are on the subject of the coronavirus: this year the prize-winners were informed of their success via a TV programme. On account of the pandemic, the awards ceremony – which is only held once every four years – could not be run in person but instead only as a TV event. However, the projects that won prizes, were nominated or received a commendation will be on show over the coming weeks in a travelling exhibition. How nice that, wherever they look, the visitors will see ADLER!
