There is also growing demand for oiled finishes in the window sector. Many customers are consciously opting for an authentic wooden character with a natural look and a pleasant feel. To achieve this, window manufacturers need products that are easy to apply, low-odour, quick-drying and enable efficient workflows. At the same time, demands regarding sustainability and environmental protection are rising: VOC emissions must be reduced and resources conserved. With its latest development, technology pioneer Adler has succeeded in combining all these requirements: Aquawood Soft-Finish is a water-based oil that delivers outstanding performance in terms of surface protection, ease of application and environmental friendliness.

New technology

“By combining the latest raw material technologies with modern production processes, our development department has succeeded in creating a contemporary water-based coating system with the typical properties of wood oil,” explains Simon Leimgruber, Head of the Window and Architectural Coatings Development Group at ADLER. This innovative water-based oil delivers a particularly natural finish with very high transparency, excellent pore wetting and a waxy feel. The surface impresses with a uniform, streak-free appearance without any sheen or roughening. Aquawood Soft-Finish is suitable for softwoods and for both interior and exterior use. “Outdoors, however, depending on the intensity of weathering, it should be maintained once or twice a year with ADLER’s Pullex Wood Oil, ” advises the coatings expert.

Optimised application

For applicators, Aquawood Soft-Finish offers a range of benefits: it can be applied using a flow coating or dip method and impresses with excellent run-off properties and uniform wetting. This results in clean, high-quality surfaces – without any time-consuming finishing work! The water-based oil dries significantly faster than traditional wood oils, thereby enabling particularly efficient production and optimised processes. “We have also succeeded in significantly reducing the VOC content to below 3 per cent,” emphasises developer Andreas Feller. The low-odour oil is therefore particularly sustainable and pleasant to use.

Colouration via primer coat

The coating itself is colourless and only subtly enhances the natural beauty of the wood. However, custom colouration can be easily achieved using the ADLER primer coat Aquawood Primo . This allows a wide range of design preferences to be perfectly realised. “High-quality finishes with maximum efficiency – with Aquawood Soft-Finish, we are offering a product that will delight the window industry,” says ADLER division manager Richard Mölk with conviction.
