Maximum transparency and no compromises with ADLER's CrystalClear-Technology

With its new CrystalClear-Technology, Austrian paint and varnish manufacturer ADLER has achieved a new milestone in window and exterior door coating: CCT makes it possible to achieve crystal-clear transparency while also offering highly effective light protection and the best possible surface quality.

Each piece of wood has its own special character. Its colour, its wood grain and its pore pattern are as unique as a person's fingerprint. Retaining this natural appearance is something that many clients aspire to, and that's understandable – if you opt for wood as a high-quality material for your windows and doors, you'll be keen to show off its beauty to the full extent! Up until now, however, that could only be done to a limited extent: highly transparent window coatings inevitably tended to lead to fading or yellowing. Coating systems that were able to counteract this yellowing effect often had a significantly lower degree of transparency. When producing coatings for exterior doors, many manufacturers therefore prefer to use oils – with all their pros and cons. It is well known that oiled surfaces give a lesser degree of protection against weathering and mechanical stress, and this can often result in problems with exterior doors in particular. Furthermore, oiled surfaces need to be given an after-care treatment at regular intervals of 6 to 12 months – this maintenance procedure is time-consuming; experience has shown that it is often neglected. Yet now, Austria's leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes can finally offer a solution: its new CrystalClear-Technology (CCT) combines crystal-clear brilliance with highly effective light protection and the perfect surface quality that users of ADLER's premium coatings are accustomed to.

Unique light protection formula

The recipe for success behind the new CrystalClear-Technology is a unique light protection formula that has been developed by Head of Development Dr Simon Leimgruber and his team at the ADLER Laboratory. "We have combined various UV absorbers in such a way that we can achieve the best possible protection across the entire wavelength range of visible and invisible radiation," Dr Leimgruber tells us. This is especially important with oak windows. Conventional light stabilisers in fact only protect the wood against UV rays – they don't do anything to prevent the dreaded fading of oak. By contrast, ADLER's new high performance light stabiliser specifically absorbs sections of the visible light spectrum – this not only prevents fading of oak, but also yellowing of spruce, pine or fir. This light protection formula has only minimal colour of its own, so the authentic character of the wood, with all its contrasts, is retained down to the last pore.

Natural and no compromises

The unique CrystalClear-Technology is available for the 1C window coating system Ligno+, the 2C window coating system Aquawood Diamond and the 2C exterior door coating Aquawood Protor. The wood should first of all be treated with the right primer for oak, larch, spruce, pine or fir. After an intermediate coat, the highly transparent topcoat is applied, ensuring a super resilient surface and long-lasting light protection. "With our CrystalClear-Technology, we have achieved a genuinely important milestone," explains Dr Leimgruber, with pride. "For the first time, it is now possible to coat windows and exterior doors with a highly transparent coating without making any compromises on surface quality – this means we can offer our customers a high-quality complete solution for the current trend towards a natural wood look."

ADLER – paint runs through our veins

With around 720 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of paints, varnishes and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral, achieving this milestone in 2018. The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects.
