ADLER’s new Legno Aqua-Öl Plus stands out for its improved durability and more natural finish
Naturally, naturally: ADLER is launching a water-based oil for furniture and interior design that offers enhanced durability for a particularly natural finish – both in terms of appearance and ingredients!

Oiled surfaces are very popular. However, most oils tend to make the wood look quite dark – an effect that isn’t always to everyone’s taste. So how can you combat this? With water, of course! Water-based oils, however, often have weaknesses when it comes to durability. That is why Austria’s leading wood coating expert, ADLER, has now developed a comprehensively improved oil that tackles all these challenges: the new Legno Aqua-Öl Plus combines good chemical and mechanical resistance with a particularly natural appearance.
A natural finish
“With Legno Aqua-Öl Plus, wood surfaces with a distinctly natural character can be created. This impression is further enhanced by a very pleasant feel,” explains Gabriel Partl, Head of the Development Group for Furniture Varnishes, Stains and Oils (Commercial) at ADLER. At the same time, his team has succeeded in significantly increasing the surface treatment’s resistance to liquids as well as its resistance to cream and grease. Thanks to the use of modern raw materials, wood finished with Legno Aqua-Öl Plus is equipped to withstand all the stresses of everyday life.
Natural ingredients
But that’s not all – particularly when it comes to ingredients, the ADLER developers have set another milestone: The proportion of bio-based raw materials in the finished surface treatment has been increased to around 50 per cent, whilst the solvent content of the oil has been reduced to under 3 per cent: “Legno Aqua-Öl Plus is therefore a particularly sustainable solution for commercial and industrial users who value environmental protection and pleasant working conditions for their staff,” emphasises Partl.
Naturally simple
Applying Legno Aqua-Öl Plus is incredibly simple and efficient: it can be sprayed or rolled on, dries quickly, is easy to sand and is suitable for all common types of furniture wood. For an even more natural look – particularly on light woods or reclaimed timber – the essentially colourless oil can be lightened with a small amount of ADLER Aqua-Tint Polarweiß. Flexible plus functional, durable plus hard-wearing, sustainable plus natural – the new Legno Aqua-Öl Plus has more than earned the “Plus” in its name!
ADLER – paint runs through our veins
With 730 employees, ADLER is Austria's leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. More than 20,000 tons of paint leave the plant in Schwaz, ADLER's only production site, every year and are shipped to customers throughout Europe and beyond. Innovation and sustainability are the foundations of the corporate strategy. In doing so, ADLER focuses on reducing its CO₂ footprint, cycle-oriented product development and numerous partnerships for science and environmental protection.
