Lignovit GLT Plus from ADLER: Premium protection and decorative design for timber construction

Breathtaking constructions in impressive dimensions: Modern timber construction is advancing into ever higher spheres. This also increases the demands on the timber construction elements: During transportation, storage and assembly, they need the best possible protection against moisture, dirt and UV rays! This is why Austria's leading wood coating expert ADLER now wraps the wood-based materials in a temporary protective coating.

Lignovit GLT Plus is the ideal solution for the challenges of modern timber engineering. "Today, timber construction elements are sometimes transported across Europe or even by ship to other continents without being covered. They are often on the move for days or even weeks. Even then, they are confronted with numerous environmental influences and have to withstand moisture, dirt and temperature fluctuations. On the construction site, they are usually stored outdoors and are exposed to the weather and sunlight. And even during installation, it takes a while until all the wooden components are in the protected area," says Simon Leimgruber, head of the window and architectural coatings development group at ADLER. This can lead to swelling, shrinkage and formation of cracks or unsightly discoloration and yellowing. That is why the research team in the ADLER laboratory has done everything in its power to develop a rational way to maintain and even improve the Durability and natural beauty of the building material.

Protection against water & dirt

This has been achieved with a new generation of raw materials: "With just one application of Lignovit GLT Plus, we achieve sensational water protection for up to six weeks. The continuous film drastically reduces moisture absorption. Soiling, which often occurs on construction sites - including from other trades - can also be removed quickly and easily," explains Leimgruber. Special light filters ensure a high level of yellowing protection - during the construction phase and beyond if required. This is because the visual demands placed on the glulam and cross-laminated timber elements, which are often left visible, are becoming ever greater. The natural material should be visible in all its glory or be given a particularly elegant design. This is why Lignovit GLT Plus is available in a special UV protection version and, of course, in a wide range of colors. In addition, the standard active ingredient-free coating can be equipped with film protection against blue stain infestation to guarantee even better Durability in areas at risk.

Film-free

Application of the mid-layer glaze could not be easier. "The water-based product can be Brushed, sprayed, applied with the Vacumat ®, even with a mop," reveals Leimgruber. It dries extremely quickly and enables rapid stacking - an essential advantage for highly industrialized production processes. And there is another factor that plays a decisive role: sustainability! Until now, the elements were often packed in plastic film for transportation. Timber construction companies can now spare themselves and the environment this!
